Dr. Clara Krause, PT, DPT, CSCS (she/her/hers)
Quote: “Runners are stubborn. I love that about them. They don’t want to stop running, and I get it. But you better believe that same stubbornness is usually what brings them straight into PT.”
Personal Story
Clara grew up in Colorado and will always be a Colorado girl at heart, which means being outside as much as possible, loving on her three big dogs, spending time in the mountains, and never missing ski season. That said, she also has a little Texas in her. She went to TCU for undergrad (go Frogs!) and has an unfathomable number of cowboy boots.
PT school brought Clara to New York, where she found her people and quickly knew she wanted to stay. She has traveled extensively and loves talking about places, whether it’s her love for the city, the mountains back home, or just about anywhere else.
Professionally, Clara has experience in outpatient orthopedics and has always felt a strong connection to neuro cases. But becoming a running PT felt like the most natural fit. The blend of coaching, training, programming, and long-term planning makes perfect sense to her as a lifelong runner turned NYC marathoner. She considers herself lucky to have turned both her hobby and her community into her career.
When she’s not running, you’ll find Clara in the gym, bouncing between workout classes, or on a yoga mat. In the winter, she’s back home skiing Breckenridge whenever she can.
Treatment Style
Clara loves working with beginner runners, especially those gearing up for their first race – whether that’s a half marathon or a full. She believes there’s something special about the early phase of the sport and strives to help runners maintain their love of running while navigating everything that comes with the newness of it. That said, she works with runners of all abilities, whether they’re running 10 miles a week or 100. Clara builds personalized, weekly strength plans designed specifically for running. She knows most runners don’t want to spend more time in the gym than necessary, so her approach is efficient, realistic, and purposeful, making sure strength work truly supports the miles. Clara takes a more progressive, performance-based approach to physical therapy, especially when it comes to strength and plyometrics. Her mindset is simple: if nothing changes, nothing changes. Whether the goal is getting out of pain, staying healthy, or chasing a PR, she believes runners have to train for it. She is there to coach her athletes or collaborate with their coaches, adjusting training plans from both an injury-prevention and performance standpoint. Either way, the goal is the same: keep runners strong and running.

Quote: “Progress over perfection.”
Personal Story
Anthony earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree from Columbia University and his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University at Albany. He is a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association. Anthony was involved in martial arts most of his young life and knows first hand what it is like to recover from an injury. His first exposure to PT was following a knee surgery; the interpersonal and empathetic nature of the field always stood out to him. He has brought this first hand experience into his patient care which has allowed him to appreciate the rehab process to help patients resume their passions.
Treatment Style
At Custom, Anthony found a philosophy that aligns with how he believes rehab should be delivered: individualized, movement-driven, and rooted in education. He loves working with runners, strength athletes, and all types of active individuals, including but not limited to, baseball players, basketball players, soccer players, racquet sport players, and all types of youth athletes. Anthony also has extensive training and knowledge in treating post-operative orthopedic conditions. His treatment style blends evidence-based orthopedic care with progressive strength training, load management, and honest conversations about goals and expectations. Whether someone is training for their first race, aiming for a PR in the gym, or aiming to get back on the court, Anthony believes rehab should build capacity and long term tolerance — not just decrease pain.

Quote: “Make every step count.”
Personal Story
Kelsea became a physical therapist because there’s nothing better than helping someone get back to doing what they love to do. For many of our patients at Custom, that’s running – but as someone who also loves other sports like tennis and golf, Kelsea’s passionate about helping any athlete get back to doing whatever makes them feel their best. As an athlete, she understands both the excitement of chasing goals and the frustration of being sidelined by injury.
Treatment Style
As a physical therapist, Kelsea likes to take a holistic approach to treatment. She doesn’t just treat an injury, she treats the whole person. Kelsea combines individualized physical therapy with strength training, progressive loading, and coaching principles to address the root cause of injury and support overall performance. She loves working with runners of any level, athletes of any kind, or active individuals who want to understand their body and actively participate in their recovery.

Dr. Cathlin Fitzgerald
(She/Her/Hers)
PT, DPT, CSCS
Quote: “If you want what you’ve never had you must do what you’ve never done”
Personal Story
Cat always knew she wanted to work in the medical field and for a long time wanted to be a pediatrician. She never heard of physical therapy growing up until she needed it! Cat played sports her whole life (including winter track, she’s all too familiar with long high school Armory meets!) and landed in PT with a couple of injuries: a subluxed patella and later a tibial stress fracture. Ironically, the tibial stress fracture resulted from horrific running mechanics and her parents had the wherewithal to send her somewhere to fix that. Cat loved the idea of a health profession where you could develop relationships with patients and be a regular part of their recovery.
Cat went to Ithaca College for their accelerated PT program and played field hockey there. During her graduate years, she didn’t have organized sports in her life for the first time and felt like something was missing, so she naturally fell into distance running. Cat started off her PT career at a general outpatient orthopedic clinic, but always had a huge interest in biomechanics and working with runners. She would host injury screenings at a local New York running company shoe store on the east side to build a running clientele, but it just wasn’t the right environment for runners. She still remembers the day in May of 2015 when she saw an ad for this new start-up running clinic called New York Custom Physical Therapy. Cat knew it was exactly where she was meant to be.
The rest is history! Cat has been at Custom ever since and has continued with her personal running despite all the injuries that have popped up. Cat prefers the half marathon, but cycled through the marathon bug like a lot of us do! She ran the NYC Marathon for the first time in 2018. Cat had knee surgery at the end of 2019 and ran her first post surgery and postpartum marathon in 2024. These experiences have provided her with a deep empathy for all of her clients and a commitment to ensure they experience the feeling of having made it through.
Treatment Style
Being a PT is a part of a small group of health professions that allow you to work with patients regularly. You get to know people: understand what’s important to them, what they’ve overcome, what they enjoy, and why movement is important to them. Cat will work with anyone, but her favorite cases are the “tough” ones… The ones where someone has seen three or four other PTs, been told to stop running, or only has the smallest shred of hope that their pain will ever go away. Cat uses many different treatment styles, including various manual techniques. These range from soft tissue work to joint mobilizations and manipulations. She is incredibly detailed and prescriptive in running, exercise routines and lifestyle changes to avoid decision fatigue on the client’s end. Generally someone walking in our doors is going to be very good about doing what Cat asks outside of the clinic, so we’re going to take advantage of that to make the most progress as quickly as possible.
